In March 2023, it was reported that 700 international students would face deportation from Canada due to fraud. Those international students used fake college acceptance letters to come to Canada.
Those international students protested outside the office of Canada Board Services Agency (CBSA) in Mississauga. Some of them even camped outside the office to avoid the deportation.
Today, June 14, 2023, the minister of Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a statement to take the following measures to address the students’ concern.
- A taskforce has been made to work with CBSA closely to investigate each case;
- An international student who “came to Canada with a genuine intent to study and without knowledge of the use of fraudulent documentation” will be issued a TPR to avoid 5-year ban because of misrepresentation.
- IRCC will work with DLIs closer to better detect and combat fraud.
